How the 3D Car Color Simulator Works
The simulator loads .glb 3D model files using GLTFLoader from Three.js. Once the model is in the browser, OrbitControls allow full 360° rotation via mouse drag or touch swipe. Each painted section of the car is a separate mesh — clicking a part highlights it and lets you assign a new color from the palette.
All of this runs on the GPU via WebGL, which means smooth rendering without any plugin. The same technique is used in commercial car configurators by major automotive brands — this demo shows the core mechanics at a portfolio scale.
